Solar Ventures into Jordan

Italian alternative energy firm Solar Ventures has teamed up with Jordanian company Kawar Energy to build a 100-megawatt solar power plant in Ma’an, Jordan. The plant will create 500 jobs and possibly add another 100 following completion, which is expected in 2012. It is also anticipated that the plant will cut Jordan’s carbon emissions by 160,000 tonnes per year. Solar Ventures has purchased a two-square-kilometre plot of land for the project, which could be expanded to five square kilometres if needed.
